Every day I read articles about ways to get your site to the top of search engines and “video tips” from many, many companies, but let’s explore a few things that are a sure fire way to help you continually improve the content for your website viewers.
Always be thinking “who is my audience, and why are they coming to my site? What am I offering them and how can I get them to make further contact with me?”
The first thing is to help people… That’s right! Not everything is about making a buck. Say you’re an attorney… People are googling for attorneys because they are, most likely, in trouble and need help in some capacity. Anticipate their needs and offer something that will help you build trust, and may, eventually, put a buck in your pocket because they TRUST you. Maybe it’s as simple as posting a generic LLC form that someone can download off your site and a brief paragraph explaining the difference between an LLC, corporation, and sole proprietorship. I know I would have liked to have found that when I was asking myself those questions.
Become a Subject Matter Expert (SME). Build a blog, if you don’t already have one. They are easy, cheap, and a great way to communicate with your audience. WordPress is a great start. There are literally 100s of thousands of free and pay “themes” you can download that have built in Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) that are search engine friendly and have rich plug-ins for about anything you can imagine. If you don’t have the time, we can certainly do this for you and help you come up with topics to write about so you have a continual presence.
Get video on your site… Having a great website is standard these days… The things that made some websites cool, like Flash based sites, are terrible for SEO and should be stayed away from, at all costs! Search engines, like Google, cannot read what is within Flash and therefore will NEVER help you be found for anything you are trying to rank for. But, video is an interactive and engaging that you can use on your website that can actually help you rank better! That’s right… The thing is that you have to create a code so that search engines know what’s inside the video, because the search engines can’t crawl your site, sit down, watch your video and say, “that was a great video and really relevant to the key words they are trying to rank for.” Nope. You have to tell the search engines what’s inside the video, where to find it, and, if you’d like to know more, email us and we’ll send you a free .pdf. Send emails to info@lanemp.com.
